Eleven practices, every one of them read off its own website. Two say on their own site that somebody is there overnight, and both of them are for dogs and cats. Six take livestock and three will drive out to you, but not one of the eleven puts its name to a stock trailer at three in the morning — that gap is printed further down instead of filled in.

In here because the practice's own website says it treats cattle, horses, sheep or goats. A clinic that only mentions dogs and cats is not in this lane no matter how good it is, and a clinic that says “large animals” without naming one is in the lane with that plainly noted.
The sign says it: “Large and Small, We Treat Them All!” The site backs it up — “Gretna Animal Clinic, located in Gretna, NE, is a clinic treating small and large animals of all types. On nights: “If you have an after hours emergency please call for further assistance.” That is the whole of it. No hours are attached to that sentence, so it is not an overnight claim and we have not treated it as one.

Under “Type of Pet Seen” the site lists “Dogs, Cats, Horses, Large Animals — Call us for more info.” The last four words are theirs, and they are the honest part: of Dr. Porter it says “His background does include large animal practice, but his career has evolved to small animal and equine.” Horses yes, in writing. Cattle, goats and poultry are not named, and no farm call is claimed — so call and ask before you count on either.

A small-animal clinic that keeps a door open for a few farms, and says exactly that: “We are predominantly a small animal practice, but provide care for a select group of large animal clients. We do not provide veterinary care for horses.” Cattle, goats and poultry are not named either way. On nights, the site gives you the whole procedure: “Emergency service is provided both during and after regular office hours. Pet owners in need of emergency service after hours, can reach Dr. Verner by dialing the clinic number, 402-727-9900, and electing to dial O during the playing of the recorded message.” No overnight hours are published, so it is not in the lantern.

The farms near Omaha keep this book honest: six of the eleven practices above are in a livestock lane at all because somebody out on that ground still keeps cattle and horses, and the day the farms stop calling is the day this lane gets shorter.

The hardest lane to fill honestly. A practice is in here only if its own site names chickens, goats or both. “Exotics” alone does not count, and neither does a photo of a hen.
Goats, named, with the limit attached in the same breath: “We also offer some preventative care to horses, goats, and other small hobby-farm animals with advance-notice appointments.” Preventative care and advance notice — this is the wormer-and-hoof-trim call, not the one you make at midnight. They will come as far as your door but not, on this site, to your pasture: “Our qualified staff still does house-calls with an advance notice appointment.” House calls, their word, which is why they are not in the farm-call lane. No cattle and no chickens anywhere on the site.

Goats are in the sentence that describes the whole practice: “…livestock (cattle, sheep, and goats), and horses, as well as exotic pets and other animals.” Sheep and cattle come with them, which makes this the only listing in the ring that names a small ruminant and a cow on the same line. Poultry is not stated anywhere on the site, and we have not read it into “other animals”.

CHICKENS, SPECIFICALLY — NONE
Both practices above say goats on their own website. Neither one says chickens, and neither does anybody else in the ring — eleven sites read, and poultry appears on none of them. The nearest thing is VEG's list of “dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, snakes, and other exotic animals”, and a pet bird at an emergency hospital is not a laying flock, so we are not counting it.
That is the whole finding for this ring. If you keep hens near Omaha, take the two above, call them in daylight and ask them straight — then you will know, which is more than this page can tell you today. We are not going to pad the lane by promoting a phrase.
Farm call
They come to you, and their own site says so. Where the site puts a limit on the driving — a species, a client-only rule, a preference for hauling in — the limit is printed with the listing instead of being smoothed over.
“Also available are mobile services for large animal needs.” One sentence, no qualifier on it — no mileage ring, no client rule, no preference for hauling in — so there is no mark on this listing. What the site does not do is name the animals or the ground, so the call is the only way to find out how far west of Gretna they will go.

What the night doesn't hold

The lantern at the top of this page holds two hospitals and both of them are for dogs and cats. Eleven sites were read looking for a livestock number that answers at three in the morning, and none of the eleven publishes one. Twin Valley comes nearest and stops short in its own words: “We additionally provide a 24-hour emergency service available on weekends, evenings, and holidays. Due to limited staffing, our emergency serves are only available to established clients whose accounts are in good standing.” Their site then sends everybody else back the way you came — “If you are a non client and need an emergency veterinarian, please try the VCA in Omaha.” If you keep stock on this ring, the useful hour to fix that is a Tuesday afternoon: pick one of the six in the livestock lane, get your account open and in good standing, and you will have a number that works on a Sunday. That is not advice about animals. It is the shape of the page.
WHAT THE OTHER TWO DON'T CLAIM
Two practices in this ring are built for the hours after your regular vet locks up, and neither one claims the night. Both Urgent Pet Care doors publish the same line — “Business Hours: Mon-Sun: 8 am – Midnight. Holidays: 8 am – Midnight.” — and midnight is midnight. That keeps both of them out of the lantern and out of all four lanes above, and it is not a mark against either one. An evening door that admits it is an evening door is worth a great deal more at eight o'clock than a promise nobody keeps at three. They are below, with their hours in their own words. Urgent care
Walk-in doors for the evening and the weekend, both of them under one name on the Nebraska side. Neither says on its own site that it is open overnight, so neither is in the lantern. Alphabetical, same as everywhere else — we don't rank anybody, and there is nothing on this page for sale.
Open every day of the week from breakfast until midnight, and the site makes no claim past that hour. The word to watch for on a page like this is “24”, and it is not on theirs — which is why this door is here and not at the top of the page.

Lanes are claims, not guesses
A practice is in the large-animal, poultry, goat or farm-call lane because its own site says it treats those animals or drives out. Plattsmouth says house calls, so it is not in the farm-call lane. Nobody in this ring names chickens, so that half of lane three stays empty. That is the whole method.
No status lights, no stars
Hours are quoted, never rendered as “open now” — VCA MidWest is open all night Sunday through Thursday and shut all day Saturday, which is exactly the shape a status light gets wrong.
